Old Video for Old Friends
I made this a while back, using photos from Fall of last year. I think it has 100 or so views on YouTube, 94 of which were me. I love watching it, so I thought I would share it.

Remember all the rides back on Yo MTV raps? I remember thinking they were all just a bit suburban-boring, but they seemed to embody the hip-hop hustle perfectly back then. These rides say “I am big in the hood, but not yet Michael Jackson big”. Times have definitely changed. Back then, the exotics were super rare. Aside from the Fresh Prince’s Mom’s new Porsche, rap transportation looked something like these:
Acura Legend (w/ MOMO I.D.E.A.s)

Jeep Grand Cherokee

Mercedes SL (It’s a rental)

Ford Explorer (Eddie Bauer)
Mercedes 190

Range Rover Country (pretend the grass is Brooklyn asphalt)
Saab 93

Nissan “Look at the mutha fuckin wheels” Maxima

Suzuki Samurai*

Things learned while assembling all of these photos:

Maximillion Cooper, the Man.
For Gumball Fans… I have posted the announcement for the 2008 Gumball. Super, ultra-exclusive this year and considerably more expensive this time out. Not that cost is an issue for any of the entrants. About 5 years ago, a friend and I had the chance to be what they call ’scumballers’, or people that tag along, hang out, and generally try to keep up with the legit gumballers. The rally rolled through Dallas when it first came the US. A number of C-D-E-F-list celebrities were there including the Wall Street Journal’s C-list posterboy Rob Dyrdek (wink, wink) who was rolling with Josh Kalis.

There were quite a few tanned, European rich kids and business-types, but cruising out of town as part of the caravan going 135 mph was killer. Save up your dough!

Spent a couple of days working in SF this week. Beautiful weather, great food, fantastic people and lots of good solid, collaborative work. My travels are typically far from glamorous, but at least the walks to work were far better than the NYC version. Also attended a social media meeting of the minds which was quite interesting and the subject of a future post.

The wonderful David and Allen graced us with their presence last weekend. Always a good time and sad to see them leave. Til next time.
…and lots of walking.
Monday: 4 cities in 24 hours, and no sleep:
NYC > Cincinnati > Atlanta > San Francisco

My brother recently took a helicopter from island to island in Fiji, which reminded me of my recent experience cruising in a helicopter. Despite the fact that I do not even own a car at the moment, I have always been fascinated with transportation, including helicopters. If you have never had the chance, I encourage you to give it a shot. There are tons of opportunities, from city tours and corporate meeting hopping, and I have a friend that even hopped a ride at a flea market in East Texas (not recommended). Definitely jump on the opportunity – and take a camera – because you’ll get intersesting shots that you’d never get otherwise. Even the cockpit provides some interesting subject matter.
